Kinesio Taping at AktivOrtho™
Kinesio taping is a technique in which an elastic tape made of special material is applied on a body part for various therapeutic reasons. This technique is based on the body’s own healing processes. Without affecting the range of movement, Kinesio tape gives your joints and muscles stability and it exhibits its efficiency through the activation of the proprioceptive and circulatory system. It is applied over joints, muscles, ligaments or the lymphatic system to reduce pain, inflammation, relax overused muscles and support muscles in their function.
Kinesio taping can be used for anything from headaches to foot problems, for example- low back pain, cervical spine problems, knee instabilities, swelling, shoulder pain, post-surgical edema, ankle sprains, pain management, or as preventive injury method for athletes. Nevertheless, this list of the uses of Kinesio taping is not exhaustive. Once a Kinesio tape has been applied, it stays for at least four days without affecting your daily functional activities.
Kinesio taping is widely used as a treatment modality by health care professionals throughout the world.
As an instance, a fast bowler who uses the shoulder excessively when bowling long spells in cricket would be seen using Kinesio taping to render support and free movement to the shoulder. Similarly, a soccer player may be seen with a Kinesio tape on his knee that allows him to perform open and less painful movements. Those affected by Tennis elbow also use this tape for providing support which ensures less painful movement of the elbow region while playing.
At AktivOrtho™, we use Kinesio tape made of international standard fine acrylic material. We provide taping for our clients whilst they are undergoing physiotherapy treatment for the aforementioned reasons. It must be borne in mind that treatment is always dictated by the primary health problem and assessment findings and this is true of kinesiotaping too.
